STATISTICS AND NATURE

Statistics is one part of mathematics that can change the world and the way people think in great ways. It is sad that the world has been invaded by what I call 'Pocket Calculator Scientists' these people can scare you out of this world by using statistics derived from research. By simply projecting figures obtained from simle reseach and turning them into a statistic, the future for most things can be summarised as a disaster.

Almost everything has been given its piece of statistic. At one time people were so scared that this world was runing out of trees and the result there was going to be a shortage of oxygen meaning that people would die as a result. But the truth is that there are still many trees in the world, talk of the tropical rain forests and vast jungles in Africa were even the craziest deforestors will find it not so profitable to go and prune a branch. It's just the statistics that scares. To me whatever happens oxygen will bwe available, enough for the whole human kind even to the other animals.

People often tend to forget what really matters most in this world. No matter how much we try to change this world, the fact remains that we can't. After all our efforts have been done we still come to the same point that nature will always preails and it will take care of itself.

Ever thought of conservationists? These people try hard to save all sorts of thins from extinction, from birds, human beings, sea creatures, and elephants

I strongly feel that when anything has reached its expiry date it will expire, this is the same reason why humans have failed to preserve life. We can only cheat time waiting for the real moment to come anyway. As for elephants and their amazing statistics, I'm sorry to say that the next generation will not be blesed with the presence of such gigantic creatures just like we all hear of denosours and other huge mamals that used to be mebers of the earth community.

As much as the reseachers and statisticians tell us about how we can improve the numbers by preserving elephants and funding ways of increasing their population through breeding, we are just cheating time.

Even Scientists are scared of their own creations and imaginations that's why we have all sorts of statistics from all over. Think of the year 1999 and how people got scared vof what they thought would happen. Thre were all sorts of statistics and possibilities of disasters that shocked the world. I remember a precationary statement that was issued at work, that we should expect things like power failure, loss of communications due to computers failing, some people had to rush to the bank to get thier accont balace before the new millenium just in case the unexpected happens.

It's not necessary to elaborate on what happened 0000hrs 01/01/00, noting all was just as usual except that those who exploited statistics had made more money. People had bought standby generators, new compurts and house hold goods and even cars that were certified Y2K complient. Retalers got good sales and profits. As for me here in Africa I still have my old stuff and it works perfectly.

I do not know if other people get scared by statistics as it used to do to me.

I guess you enjoyed. I got a hot topic coming next so keep on checking.

Happy blogging!
